Follow horses for Sunday (April 19)
For the sake of those who are visiting this blog for the first time, I will repeat here what I wrote on Saturday about the FINOO list horses, so that they are not confused.
I am going to talk only about horses that have been on my "Follow-In-Next-Outing-Only" list, or FINOO list. There are certrain parameters based on Dynamic handicapping that single out these horses on "current" form (last run) only for the "next" run.
Unlike a horse from the usual "Follow horses" list that is tracked for all runs until the end of the season, a horse in the FINOO list is followed ONLY in the NEXT run, and is bet only for WIN, provided it satisfies the following conditions:
a. Runs at the same or lower level;
b. Runs over a trip that is either same, or plus or minus 200m
c. Has either the same or better jockey
Note: If a horse does not satisfy ALL conditions, then not only it is NOT bet this time, but is actually taken off the list!
The interesting thing about horses from this list is that if a horse satisfies all three conditions, then you have to bet for WIN without giving any thought to rivals! Now that's something the handicappers just can't get themselves to do as it goes against their every instinct and all the handicapping wisdom in the world. But the truth is the FINOO list horses generally outperform best handicappers over the long run, have a high strike rate, and most importantly, are great time savers.
There are only two horses from the "Follow-In-Next-Outing-Only" list running on Sunday's card, and they are:
Czar Alexander (3-4) &
Up North (9-10)
Czar Alexander:
a) Running at the same level (class I)
b) running over 200m shorter trip (1400 from 1600m)
c) DOES NOT HAVE the same or better jockey (Malesh, although a top bracket jockey like McCullagh who rode the horse last time, does not possess the same form at the moment)
Satisfies 2 of the 3 conditions.
No bet, strike off the FINOO list.
Up North:
a) Not running at the same level (ran in 5y&o, class V last time, running in open class V this time; 10 of the 14 runners in the fray are 4y olds)
b) running over the same trip (1400m)
c) with the same or better jockey (like Daniel Grant, Srinath is also a top jockey in decent form)
Satisfies only 2 of the 3 conditions.
No bet, strike off the FINOO list.
So both the possible bets get eliminated as none of them satisfies all the 3 conditions.
FINOO list followers do not face such no-action days very often, although they are not rare either.
Good luck.

Dear Prakash,
ReplyDeleteThe concept of FINOO list is required to be amended a little for superior benefits in my view. With my experience I would like you to ponder on these observations also.
1. A horse gaining on form shall last for a maximum of four weeks. When a horse shows out in its previous run, it falls under public attention and does not command the desired price for betting purpose. Hence trainers deliberately put them in wrong distances/change equipmnts/draft inferrior jockeys and strike rich in the next run when punters memory is short. Good example for this is the run of LONE TROJAN on Derby day. Hence I request that a list of " FOLLOW IN NEXT 2 OUTINGS- FIN2OO " COULD BE THE RIGHT OPTIONS. this approach could lead to better results. ravi hyd

Dear Ravi,
ReplyDeleteYou are presuming that all owners/trainers are in this business to make money by gambling successfully on their horses.
Yes, a trainer may give a number of runs to a horse if he feels the horse is out-handicapped at the present mark. But if the horse has struck form and is ready to strike, no trainer/owner is going to let the winning opportunity slip by just because the odds are not right. The only exception could be a handful of unscrupulous owners (who are big bettors) who may attempt to recoup their huge investments in bloodstock by resorting to unfair means.
And believe me, gambling successfully is a more difficult task for them than it is for hard-working handicappers like you and me. They are just not good at it, that's all. So it does not make sense for most trainers to give 'just a run' to a horse that is actually 'ready to strike.'
