Although I have made it clear that there is not a single horse from the FINOO (Follow-In-Next-Outing-Only) list on the Saturday (April 25) card, strictly speaking, that is not true. There is one horse running on Saturday, who has missed getting onto the FINOO list by a proverbial whisker, like a horse losing the race in a photo finish.
When does a horse miss the FINOO bus? There are two stages that a horse needs to qualify to finally get onto the FINOO list. Both stages have their own rules, and unfortunately, they are ironclad, almost written in stone. Because a check on past performances shows that if you slacken the rules even a little bit, your strike rate, which is the most important factor for long term profit with this list, may go for a toss.
The first is a qualifier stage. A horse can pass it in two ways. It can either register a peculiar type of track (on outer sand), or display a peculiar pace move during an actual race. When it does so, it passes the first test, and gets onto the WATCH list.
The horse is then watched for maximum two more runs (or 45 days, whichever is earlier) to see if it produces at least ONE of the THREE peculiar running patterns (identified by us) between 1000 and 400 meter markers. If not, it is dropped from the watch list. If it does, then it is upgraded to the FINOO list.
Once the horse gets onto the FINOO list, it’s then monitored ONLY, as the name suggests, for the NEXT run. There are three conditions (that have already been explained last weekend) that the horse must satisfy to qualify as a bet. One of my students has nicknamed this as an LGHMDH bet.
It’s an acronym for a famous dialogue from a popular Hindi film, Sholay, in which, in one of the scenes, actor Sanjeev Kumar, playing a handless Thakur, tells Jai (Amitabh) and Veeru (Dharmendra): “Loha garam hai; maar do hathoda!” (The iron is hot; hammer it hard!)
The qualifying rules for the second stage are so ironclad, some horses fulfill them almost, but not quite. For example, if a horse makes a particular one of the three qualifying moves between 1000 & 400m, then we don’t want it to be overtaken at the post by another horse coming form behind. Only then, it will figure on the FINOO list. But sometimes, for some extraneous reason (not a horse’s fault), the horse misses the FINOO bus because the rules, for the long term benefit, have to be kept absolutely uncompromising and ironclad.
One such horse, who missed the FINOO bus is running on tomorrow’s card. She did everything right to get on the FINOO list, but missed it because her jockey wasted precious time trying to force passage on the inner rails before taking her out in the last furlong, but lost crucial momentum to allow another horse come from behind and overtake her to get the second place.
Her name is Forest Native, and tomorrow she is running in the 7th race.
Don’t tell me Musical Rhythm who finished ahead of her is now going out with a better rider, or that Shodaan who ran a good race in higher class is now running on demotion. I would not have cared if Forest Native had been on my list.
Because if Forest Native had qualified for the FINOO list, we would have not even looked at the competition! That's the most interesting part of the FINOO list that you just don't handicap the rivals once you have a list horse going into the race as an LGHMDH bet.
I will and many more will go with Shyam or Tiger
ReplyDeletewho put up worthy choices, after lots of hard work.
YOu say FN has just missed the bus and i believe you. You may not play but i will put some money win/shp. The odds must be good I hope.
ReplyDeleteindiarace is showing night odds of 5/1
ReplyDeleteI checked last your last weeks columns. The results are very interesting. But two days don't make a season. And the season is gong to end now. Still i would like to watch forest native's run tomorrow. Of course i know you are not going to bet, but that's besides the point. I will consider your theory is sound even if she figures in first 3. Bcoz tograllu is a lousy rider, just chk his stat before you tip such horses.
ReplyDeleteIf night odds are 5 you will easily get 7 in bombay ring. don't rush.
ReplyDeleteJust a thought. I don't really know which of the two--indiarace or racingpulse--night odds more authentic, but just now I checked racingpulse night odds. Since it is a pay site I don't want to disclose their odds. But they have listed only three horses for the 7th race and Forest Native is not among them. So it must be longer odds than 5.
ReplyDeleteI agree with mima. FN no chance. Whtever little chance, togrllu will mess it.
ReplyDeleteDEAR PRAKASH,
ReplyDeleteMY BETS ARE SNOW QUEEN- 70/100
WAR OF ATTRITION**** WIN-2/1
MUSICAL RHYTHM WIN RAVI HYD
Prakash you are picking the worst race of the card for a bet? I cant believe it. And this not studying the race or rivals is beyond me. That's really the limit. I thought you are a sensible person, but this article is going to lose some friends for you.

Relax my dear original fanofmaster,
ReplyDeletethanks for informing me. But there is nothing I can do about it. These are some of the shortcomings of anonymity on the internet, and we have to get used to it because the net's benefits far outweigh its shortcomings.
Here is my appeal to the imposter,
why don't you change your name to funofmaster?
I don't mind being made fun of as long as it passes the moderator's policies for this blog.

Dear fanofmaster,
ReplyDeletePlease change your style if possible. It's too vertical, adding to the length of the scroll bar which is not a great thing for a webpage.
Dear Mr Opposite,
please send your mail address to gosavi@mid-day.com , I have some urgent business with you.

ReplyDeleteSorry buddy, you asked for it.
ReplyDeleteI didn't want to wash your dirty linen in public, so I gave you the option of writing in to my email. But being a coward that your are, you did not take the fair opportunity I offered you.
You have no right to call other decent posters names, hiding behind your so-called safe place that now stands exposed after I receive the first weekly report from my stat company.
The report says that there were some violations of internet ethics, and the biggest offender was the person who started writing against Srinath as "Anonymous", later as "mildly irritated", then as "Not so irritating", and then as "Mr Opposite", and had the same IP address of Reliance (123.237.248.46).
Are you aware that what you are doing can fall under punishable cybercrime? Taking up various identities from the same IP address that can be directly traced to your particular computer and data card?
Even right now you have taken another name "opposites attract" and are, for a change sitting behind a Hathaway connection (125.99.50.159).
I feel sorry I was nice to you and wasted precious time on your nonsensical queries that were only intended to discredit my viewpoint.
For you own good, I wish you had taken my offer to mail me your address so that I could have said all this to you in private.
I don't enjoy giving a public censure, even if you surely deserve it.
Please stay away from this site in future, in your own interest, I must add.
My god what a way to write! God has blessed you with "saraswati". even in your moment of anger you don't deviate from your inborn class. A masterly slap. And the idiot deserved it for sure. The fury of Prakash Gosavi, God save form it!
ReplyDeleteWell done.
