What do they do to identify that the right horse is running in the race, and not some lookalike?

Every race club has some system and procedure in place to ensure that your money rides on the horse you meant to risk it on. The people, whose job it is to identify the right horse are called just that--horse identifiers.

In today's Knowledge-day video (Wednesday section on your Race TV on toolbar), we feature a special short clip that shows you how they do it. Check it out.

  2. Due to connectivity problems, the toolbar services were hit for most of the afternoon today. However, things are back to normal and you can even watch today's Mysore races right now on the Race TV channel. Sorry for the delay.

  4. Dear Anonymous,

by the tone of your post I presume you must be the one who had last month "predicted" there would be a story on this blog about KND after Malesh Narredu and Cooji Katrak.

All I can say is that you are consistent in being wrong.

  5. To Mr anonymous(jun17-7.43PM) I was only waiting for your comments when I saw KND's photograph.Anyway come up with something substantial in future...

  6. A good clip but too short. But I think here in India they just check the markings and colour. I don't think they use photograph of a horse.

  7. Why Royal Ascot Video's are not in Race T.V.?

    Jyotin. Master.

  8. Dear Jyotin Master,
Except for the Queen Anne Stakes on Royal Ascot Day 1, no other race is available on YouTube at the moment. So we have provided a link to the Ascot video page on Race TV after your suggestion.
    Thanks for writing in.

  10. Sunday blockbusters...(7-3) Davenport and (8-7) Movie Queen.........

    ReplyDelete
  11. Dear Gemini,
Don't know about Movie Queen, but unfortunately, Davenport has now gone off the FINOO list. I think last run being the first run after being gelded, the connections themselves never fancied the horse (steel shoes indication) and perhaps never thought the horse could win. Or with even a little positive intention and effort, Davenport would have won that race. Anyway, the narrow loss only showed the power of FINOO system despite everything else being contrary to regular race logic.

  12. Just wondering why the classics are not part of the FINOO list, I mean horses like Aboline, Jacqueline, Gypsy Magic......

    Thanks

  13. Dear Girija Shankar,
If any Classic contender runs in his/her last race in a particular pattern that gets him/her onto the FINOO list, of course it will figure in the discussion.

For example, in Sunday's Classic there are two horses--Aboline & Bourbon Bay--who have come up on the FINOO list after their last races. And since FINOO being a "qualitative" system (as opposed to "quantitative" method like speed and pace handicapping), it cannot choose one over the other resorting to any kind of measurement.

However, since Bourbon Bay has run a 1200m race, FINOO will have to eliminate him on the basis of its + or - 200m rule as now he is going over +400 (1600m). So that leaves only Aboline as the FINOO contender who qualifies.

    Hope this explains your query.
