Friday (May 1) races

The Giant (Imran Chisty up) being led in by trainer Faisal Abbas and owners [pic: rwitc archives]

Apparently, despite a detailed discussion about the FINOO (Follow-In-Next-Outing-Only) horses, there are some who still find the concept confusing, especially because of the qualifier rules. They will fiind the explanation here

While I must mention here that the rules (which I want written in stone to reduce the decision making stress) are being re-looked into by CP and Curious No End (both of whom made some valuable suggestions here as well as privately in mails), and since they seem to be far better than I am in applying the rules of logic, I have agreed to seriously consider their recommendations.

However, they need a day of two to look at the old data (and see how well the results would have panned out under the new rules), until then I am going to use my stone tablets and stick to the inscpription on them as sacrosanct. (By the way, talking of stone tablets reminds me of a beautiful book, The Richest Man In Babylon, which drastically changed my perspective about money--alas too late!--and which I strongly recommend to everyone who wishes to invest, speculate or gamble, and mind you, it is a MUST READ for our young kids BEFORE they earn their first penny in life.)

Alas (I know some will say "thankfully"), there is only ONE horse on the Friday card that finds its name on the FINOO list.
The Giant (2-4)
a) Running at the same level (class V)
b) running over 200m longer trip (1800 from 1600m)
c) has the same jockey (Imran Chisty)
Satisfies ALL 3 conditions.
A WIN bet.

P.S.: Curious No End has made a special request to publicly mention if any horses on the day's card have either been struck off the FINOO list last time (like Marine Zone who went on to win after being struck off) or have just missed making the list (like Forest Native), and therefore, are not under consideration by me. He feels some people may want to keep track of such horses. To honour his request, here I put them:

Struck off from the list after last run:
Western Challenge (1-1) &
White Heart Lane (2-2)

And just missed making the FINOO list:
Dancing Glory (4-5)

Good luck.

  3. Western Challenge was blown last out. You should not have struk it off the list. Evevn I think you must revise the qualifyer rules. otherwise what will happen is you play when fav it loses, then its not fav next out n wins. it happens in racing all the time.

  5. Dear Mr Gosavi

As per my openion after the examinatin mark sheet tells the actual position of the student in the same way timing of the horse is the marks of her\his exaim(race)so i will give one more sugetion that you must take time factor in your fino list.for exampel The Giant is fullfiling your all the three condition and last time he ended with 1.40.42 and now running 200 mtr more if take last 200mtr time of last run 11.20 approx add that in 1.40.42+11.20=1.51.62 not see that next best is desert dynamite is 1-54.22 next best saarah is 1.55.51 Saddler rules come to 1.56.22 hence The giant is atleast .o3.00 better in timing and as per paper calculation 4to 5 langths better than others. Please give your comments wether I am right or wrong.(The final out come is that he should not loose the race )

  14. Dear Amith,

You are putting the cart before the horse.
A horse doesn't get on the FINOO list because it qualifies for those conditions. A horse, already on the FINOO list, qualifies as a WIN only bet IF & ONLY IF these three conditions are met.

For the horse to get onto the FINOO list, it has to go through the two stages explained in the article "Missing the FINOO bus". Please read it. You have done the course, so you already know.

Hope all is well with you in Sharjah. Please give my regards to your family.
