Cooji Katrak saddles four winners on the Sunday card

Unstoppable!: Trainer Cooji Katrak had a quadruple on Sunday's Pune card. He (extreme left) is seen here leading in Hereafter (C Rajendra up) along with owner Haresh Mehta [Pic:rwitc.com]

The revival of a phenomenon called trainer Cooji Katrak continues to intrigue me.

The man has been maligned and slandered like no trainer in this country has been. He has faced suspensions and exile, had to live through ignominy--and all this in silence and solitude.

"I was framed," were the only three words he used to describe his past [check out this interview], and refused to talk further.

"I don't have the gift of the gab," he had also said in the same interview, "so I can never win an argument or convince anyone," before adding, "but I know how to train horses and get the best out of them. I would rather win races than arguments."

Sunday's quadruple at the Pune racetrack with Sea Treasure, Hereafter, Sea Ruler & Versaki not only advertised his consistency (unlike jockeys, trainers have rarely dominated both Mumbai & Pune seasons), but also made him darling of the racing crowd because all his four horses were well-supported favourites--and still delivered the goods, a trait which racing public nowadays values more than anything else.

And that brings me to the point I want to make. If someone had told me a couple of years back that the most popular trainer in western India is going to be Cooji Katrak, I would have laughed it off.

But then, as I said in the beginning, this revival of a phenomenon called trainer Cooji Katrak continues to intrigue me.

FINOO bets (Sun, July 19)

Note: BTC has not uploaded the video for the main race, Bangalore St Leger, won by Conceptual. So that race video is NOT on Race TV playlist.
--------------------------------------------

Firstly, let me personally apologize to all the visitors (nearly 600 of them by the reckoning of the Statcounter log) for the incoveniece caused to them yesterday. As the Blog Moderator has already explained, the repairs took so long by the time they were through I had to leave on account of the little bit of social service that I do on Saturday evenings, and could return only after midnight.

Now coming back to today's races here are the FINOO list horses for Sunday's Bangalore races:

PRIME BET:

WIN only:
Mighty Heart (5-1)

=====

FINOO Experimental bets

WIN & PLACE:
Seven Star (6-9)

SHP & PLACE:
None

PLACE only:
Calypso Star (2-11)
Attaturk (7-2)

====

Bookies' Delights

The following horses may not represent value-for-money at these odds, and hence, make sense to be "laid against".

Fleet Indian (1-2)
Likely odds 50/100

Bee Quick (5-3)
Likely odds 17/10

Attention visitors

Attention vistiors

Due to the breakdown of our main computer today morning, we could not update some bloggers' selections on our toolbar as also the results & other information of today's races. We regret the inconvenience caused.

However, the problem is now rectified, and you can watch today's Bangalore races on our Race TV channel right now.

Mr Gosavi however had to leave for his usual Saturday evening time with cancer patients before the system was rectified. His selections for Sunday therefore will have to wait until he returns, which could be anytime after 8.30 pm tonight.

Again, sorry for the inconvenience.

Sunday (June 28) races

Brigade Passion (red arrow) appeals as a WIN bet from the FINOO perspective, one of the four recommended bets for the Sunday card. [Pic source: BTC race video]

Another kid on the blo(ck)g: Ruchi's Dynamic Ratings

Mr Jitendra Rawell, known to some web surfers as "Ruchi", was among the 41 students who attended my first workshop on Dynamic Handicapping in June 2003 at Bangalore. I have reason to believe he is a successful bettor. He will be uploading his Dynamic Ratings at http://RuchisRatings.blogspot.com/ from today. He is expected to send the Ratings sheet by 8.30 pm to me (I or my blog moderator will manage his blog uploads for the time being). Do check out his selections. I am also adding his blog to the toolbar blog list and wish him good luck.

Introducing FINOO - Bookies' Delight

Starting Sunday (June 28), we will upload a new feature FINOO - Bookies' Delight.

Horses which are fancied (below 4 to 1) in the night odds, but unlikely to WIN, will be listed in this special race-day upload.

Check this blog on Sunday morning for what may turn out (hopefully) a good "LAY" advice.

Sunday (June 21) races

Aboline (C Alford up) attracted as a good FINOO bet for the Colts' Trial Stakes (Gr 1), but could only finish third behind Sprint Star & Leonardo. Yet another bad day for FINOO system when only Sprituall (tipped as SHP & Place bet) obliged. [Pic: RacingPulse. In]

Uploaded on Race TV (@10.30 am on Monday, June 22): Today is Monday (Funday). We have uploaded a film "Training for fun" on the Monday section of your Race TV channel on Toolbar.

FINOO bets - Phase II (Day 2)

Please note the correction: My blog moderator had by mistake uploaded Stagelight (1-4) as a WIN only bet. I just returned from the races and noticed the error. It is actually an SHP & Place bet as per the new qualifier rules. Not that it cannot win, but we are recommending it in the SHP & Place bet category. The error is regretted.

FINOO Bets for Bangalore Sunday (June 21) card:

WIN only: Aboline (7-1)

PLACE only: Xel (2-1)

Win & Place: Einstein (5-3)

Good luck.

FINOO list horses for Bangalore, Sunday card (May 31):

There are four horses on the FINOO (Follow-In-Next-Outing-Only) list that find their names on the Sunday (May 31) card:

Let The River Run (1-6)

a) Running at the same or similar level (Picked up 6 points' penalty for the last run second, which is within our definition of the "same" level although, technically, now runs in class IV, 4y only as against open class V last time)

b) Running over the same trip (1600m)

c) Ridden by the same jockey (Suraj Narredu)

Satisfies ALL conditions.

A WIN bet.

One (5-7)

a) Running at the lower level (From open class III last time to same class, 4y&over now)

b) Running over + or - 200m trip (1600m last time; 1400m now)

c) Ridden by the same jockey (S John)

Satisfies ALL conditions.

A WIN bet.

Splendid Surprise (6-1)

a) Running at the same level (Terms, 4y&over, Grade 3)

b) Running over + or - 200m trip (From 1400 to 1600)

c) Ridden by the same jockey (Harish)

Satisfies ALL conditions.

A WIN bet.

Win Prettybaby (7-8)

a) Running at the similar level (This horse too picked up 6 points' penalty for the last run second, which is within our definition of the "same" level although, technically, now runs in class III, 4y&over as against open class IV, 4y&over last time)

b) Running over the same trip (1400m)

c) Ridden by the same, similar or better jockey (Ridden by S John last time, now goes out with Ms Lisa Jones. This is a difficult call, and as usual I will err on the side of caution and say 'NO'.)

Satisfies 2 of 3 conditions.

NO WIN bet.

Good luck.

Sunday (May 17) races

Watch the first week's races (race# 1 to 17) on out Toolbar TV. It's safe & secure and only takes seconds to install. [Pic & videos: (c) BTC]

For the second day of the Bangalroe Summer racing season, there are two horses on the FINOO list that figure in the race card: Rhapsidion Snow (6-3) & Silken Thomas (8-5).

Rhapsidion Snow (6-3)

a) Running at the same or lower level (4y&over, Gr 2 to Gr 3 now)

b) Running over 200m extra (1200m from 1400)

c) Ridden by inferior jockey (David Allan to Aadesh Kumar)

Satisfies 2 of 3 conditions.

No bet.

(Note: Very rarely a horse shows the kind of pattern that Rhapsidion Snow showed when losing to Oasis Star in her last run at Mumbai, and one would be extremely tempted to make her exception this time though she is clearly going out with lesser form jockey. But discipline cannot be sacrificed at the altar of such tempations, strictly a NO BET. And no regret even if Rhapsidion Snow wins on Sunday.)

Silken Thomas (8-5)

a) Running at the same or lower level (open Class III to Class III, 4y&o)

b) Running over 200m shorter trip (1200m from 1400)

c) Ridden by inferior jockey (C D Hayes to Ryan Marshall)

Satisfies 2 of 3 conditions.

No bet.

Good luck.

Sunday races (April 26)

After a NO-BET day last Sunday, there is some good news for the FINOO list followers.

As of this writing, only the Sunday acceptances have been published on the RWITC website, and there are FINOO horses in four of the nine races. And although I have had only a cursory glance, I think all four fulfil two of the three conditions right now.

I mean they are racing at the same level and going over trips that are within + or - 200m of their last run. THAT I think gives some hope of possible action.

Now everything depends which jockeys their connections put on them on Saturday morning at the time of the declarations. Let's keep our fingers crossed all four will qualify as bets.
